Come explore the world in 3D and bring geography to life!  Learn how to manipulate a virtual globe to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings and elevation profiles.

Room 374         Basic WORD        Presented by Angela Riethman and Kim Egbert

Participants will learn how to type and format text, change font styles and color, use bullets, justification and more.  They will gain experience designing pages with text boxes, pictures, WordArt and tables.

Room 282           “1, 2, 3 Lift-Off!”      Presented by Mark Sutton

The Dayton Challenger Center presents The Micronauts Program.  It is especially designed for grades K-4.  Students and teachers travel to the International Space Station to help the astronauts complete a number of experiments.  During the workshop teachers will experience hands-on science aligned to state and national standards.  Over 100 lesson plans will be shared with participants.

Room 262           “Connecting your Classroom to the Community – Using GIS and GPS for Spatial Problem Solving”      Presented by Katrina Simon-Agolory   

This workshop introduces GIS and GPS with highlights on GIS projects completed in K-12 classrooms throughout the U.S. and offers ideas for using GIS and GPS as a teaching tool for a variety of K-12 disciplines.  Includes hands-on exercise collecting GPS data, using free GIS software and a raffle where one lucky teacher will win a GPS unit for their classroom.

The Dayton Challenger Center presents the NASA Global Climate Change workshop featuring standards-based inquiry lessons written by the Challenger Center for Space Science Education.  Teachers will experience hands-on activities.  In addition, teachers who participate will receive a 20% savings on any missions to the Dayton Challenger Learning Center.

A dramatic new paradigm, known as Brain-Based learning has emerged with strong implications for teacher learners world-wide.  Based on research from the disciplines of neuroscience, biology and psychology our understanding of the relationship between learning and the brain now encompasses the role of emotions, thought patterns, meaningfulness, attitudes, movement, gender and enrichment. By integrating what we know about the brain with standard education practices, Brain-Based learning suggests ways that schools can be transformed into complete learning organizations.

The Dayton-Cincinnati area is world famous for its fossils.  This workshop will investigate Ohio’s fossils, concentrating on fossils found in the Dayton area and what they tell us about our local earth history.
